September is the ninth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and one of four Gregorian months with the length of 30 days.

September begins in Virgo and ends in Libra.

In the wheel of the year September spans the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere it has a corresponding position with respect to the spring equinox. These equinoxes coincide on or about September 21.

History

The name comes from the Latin septem, for "seven" - September was the seventh month of the year until 153 BCE.
